I got this cable modem/router hybrid because I was tired of paying Comcast's monthly rent. We expect. Yes, I would have saved in the end if this product hadn't let me down. Setup was easy. Plug and blow. People complain that they don't even come close to their service's top speed. And here's why: you're on the same channel as everyone around you! When I opened the web browser and the modem/router settings "username:admin. password:password" I saw that the default channel was set to channel 6. When using WLAN with a laptop, I had 32 ms ping and the maximum speed was only 32 Mbit/s/105 Mbit/s. Weak! I played around with the channel number until I got a good average Wi-Fi download speed of 75-90Mbps. That's not bad considering it's wireless! Now let's talk about the range: The density of the walls and the material affect the range. The N450 seems very durable at around 25-30 feet in my apartment. I'm just glad I can get pretty good speeds for a decent price. Yes, there are several other cable/modem routers, but Netgear has proven to be reliable so far. Let me know if you have any questions.
