Review on ๐Ÿ“ผ BYTECC BT-144 Slim USB External Floppy Disk Drive - Black | Plug & Play | USB Powered by Ryan Moran

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works great even with Windows 7

I have been a professional writer for many years. I've had a large number of 3.5" floppy disks taking up shelf space in my home office for a long time, having not had a computer with a floppy drive in a while. The thought of having to throw it all away was, to say the least, uncomfortable. With this thin external drive (and it's really thin and light) I solved the problem. And quite simply. The box doesn't say that this drive works with Windows 7. (It says that it works with Win 98/2000 /ME/XP/Vista works.) But it is. When you plug it into a USB port, Windows 7 automatically and quickly finds the right driver. In literally seconds, you can have your files on a hard drive, flash drive or move or copy somewhere else.As someone else warned, this drive only works with high density (2HD) drives. It's just one of my drives not high density so I haven't lost.If only my old Iomega ZIP drive with it one VGA to USB cable connected and worked with Windows 7 I could have saved a lot more old files. It's not a pity. but at least this drive works and works fine. (One more thing: If you're moving/copying word processing files like me, you may have problems with MS Word if you're using Office 2010 and your files are using much older versions of Word due to limited "backward compatibility" (fortunately, most my files were written using WordPerfect, which is fully backward compatible and also allows you to save files in a variety of formats.)
