Description of 🛰️ NooElec SAWbird+ GOES - Enhanced Saw Filter & Ultra-Low Noise LNA Module for NOAA (GOES/LRIT/HRIT/HRPT) Applications. 1688MHz Central Frequency

SAWbird+ GOES is a self-contained LNA module designed for capturing beautiful weather images available from NOAA GOES satellites. The module uses 2 ultra-low-noise LNAs and a custom high-performance SAW filter centered at the frequency of interest. The amplifier can be powered in 3 ways: via bias tee, through the on-board microUSB connector, or through DC barrel connector with the included USB to DC connector adapter. Though compatible with most SDRs, we recommend use in conjunction with NESDR SMArTee XTR v2 (available on Amazon, item ID B06Y1GN5RP). Includes free male SMA to male SMA adapter and USB to DC barrel connector adapter. Full 2 year warranty and support direct through Nooelec!.

A very powerful machine!

I was reluctant to purchase this unit after being disappointed with the performance of the Nooelec Distll FM and Distill AM filters. However, I was impressed with this device when paired with a small parabolic trellis dish. In 24-hour operation, 7 days a week, this amplifier-antenna combination works almost flawlessly, with only a few errors (<10) occurring per day. Two amplifiers ensure adequate signal amplification, and the built-in filter rejects nearby interference very well. Highly…

Pros
  • Acceptable
Cons
  • Some issues

Additional performance information

Robust low noise amplifier/filter in general. Exceeds gain specifications by approximately 35dB. Noise figure approx. 1.9 dB. I recorded the measured gain from 1.6GHz to 1.8GHz. The only wish is the marking on the housing of the inputs and outputs. The input is on the side with a micro USB connector.

Pros
  • Large selection
Cons
  • Some difficulties

Great for GOES 17 through Texas

Great for what it's meant to be! It's nice to have a assembled unit with fewer handling worries. Easier to install than raw panels. Built as things were once built!

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Out of fashion

Receives Weak Signals

If you want to receive weak signals from geostationary satellites, this is the LNA you need. When I had another LNA pointing at GOES 16 I had about -105dBm, but when I used this LNA I saw my signal rise to -72.5dBm. I highly recommend this product. 🛰

Pros
  • Weight
Cons
  • Crumpled

Works great, well worth the money for GOES satellite reception

I've tried regular and broadband LNAs before and it's 100% better. I was able to get GOES satellite data with a *very* marginal dish (TV dish with cardboard and foil tops). Would recommend to anyone interested in amateur satellite projects.

Pros
  • Delivery was very fast
Cons
  • Annoyed

Works much better when properly connected.

Perhaps an entry/exit marking would help? Especially for the mentally handicapped like me. I sat there for an hour trying to figure out what I did wrong. The device works great! Many Thanks

Pros
  • Inspires trust
Cons
  • Nothing here

This is the 30dB version but requires 180mA supplied by the NESDR SMARTee, the RSP -2 not enough power; these are crowbars; Get the 20dB SAWBIRD version instead - it only draws 30mA; or you can buy a 30dB version and feed it a non-RSP-2 bias.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • There are new competitors

satellite reception running

my new nooelec sawbird+geos premium saw filter works well before i got it i could barely see satellite images now that i connected it i get very good images so i would recommend that nooelec has looked after everyone who is interested in geophotography.

Pros
  • many fit
Cons
  • some little things

Great filter, works great.

Great filter, I don't think I could have achieved my goal without it. My goal is to get pictures of number 16. The build quality is amazing and it works as expected. Please note that it can be a little confusing which end of the antenna to connect to your device. The end where you apply voltage to the bias tee and connect your device is the end with the LED. Overall 10/10!

Pros
  • Quality construction
Cons
  • Requires outlet
