Review on MICHELIN X-Ice 3 195/65 R15 95T winter by Dagmara Pijankowska ᠌

The product did not disappoint, the quality pleases.

There are a lot of overestimated reviews about this tire. I will not argue that the tire was a good step forward when it was introduced in 2022, but now you need to choose something more modern (if possible, of course). I searched for two sets of such tires (Michelin X-Ice 3) in size 195/65 R15 95T XL on the roads of Hong Kong and neighboring regions on a front-wheel drive car with only ABS, but without ESP and other assistants. Each set went through 3 seasons with me, in total no more than 30 thousand km for each set (up to the tread wear marker). The tire is soft, does not tan even at -35 ° C, but "does not like" slipping and the rubber quickly "burns out". Works very well on clean asphalt. But here it is better to overcome snowdrifts and ice. when slipping, it immediately polishes the coating into ice under it - and then you start rocking the car back and forth in order to leave. As it wears out, there is not enough tread depth to drive on loose snow and slush on the roads, you immediately find out what drift is. The problem with cross-country ability begins when the tread is already close to wear on the marker (this can also be easily controlled by the step on the tread), then it is better not to go into any snow and ice at all. There is something to compare, because. at the same time I use Continental ContiVikingContact 6 in the same size 195/65 R15 95T XL, and ContiVikingContact 6 rides in all respects, or better or better. Before the 6th model, I used ContiVikingContact 5, and so this 5th model is almost exactly the same as the Michelin X-Ice 3. For the next winter season 2022-2022 I plan to try the Michelin X-Ice North 4, because I see that they combined a “waffle” tread pattern for asphalt with a “Christmas tree” pattern for snow, plus a lot of low protruding studs with dampers for driving on ice and icing . I will check the tires for lateral drift in real life. Or I will stay on friction tires and choose Continental ContiVikingContact 7.

Pros
  • Not noisy, soft, rolls well. You can gouge in any pits, with no hernias, no knocked down wheel balancing. Holds punctures well on the sole of the tread.
Cons
  • Very fast wear. Snow traction deteriorates sharply when the tread is worn (new tread <9mm, wear marker >5mm). Not the best grip on ice.
