Does what it's supposed to do, no frills

This device replaces the audio built into the HDMI cable. There is a 3-position switch to select HDMI, TOSLINK or analog PCM input from RCA cables. HDMI passes through this block with substitute audio that is multiplexed at the output. No frills. That means no fading and no flow protection when switching sources. You'll likely get an awkward noise if you fiddle with the box and turn up the volume. So not. Turn off the amplifier, then switch sources. All uses for this type of article. Adjusting levels, correcting lip sync, adding sound to a quiet source, all with other additional analog equipment. This will not solve these problems by itself, but will allow the introduction of a "sidechain". It's not a Dolby AC3 encoder, but it can transmit and encode stereo PCM. This can solve many no sound problems when using HDMI as audio source. I just wish it had level controls or at least a 10dB pad. At this price level it seems reasonable. Our problems solved. Happy with our purchase.
