Minimalist sock shoes that can withstand a strenuous day's hike

I think the most minimalistic thing is not going barefoot. The soles have impressive traction but are still thin enough that you can really feel the details on the ground beneath you. above.) I recently took her on a strenuous day hike that involved trail running in New York's Mohonk Wildlife Refuge (post-hike image of this product shown). These socks could endure up to 20,000 steps (about 9 miles) and reach a height of about 1,100 feet. The terrain was a mix of low and very wet forest due to recent heavy rains and scrambling over hot, dry rocks for most of the climb. I don't think they're waterproof, but my feet didn't get very wet (I made sure to tread muddy trails whenever possible). The shoes performed brilliantly on the rocks where they gave me the flexibility to get my foot into tight spaces that would not be accessible in a regular hiking boot. In that sense, they were almost like climbing shoes, albeit a lot less stiff. Finally, there was no separation of the rubber "outsole" from the toe material after the hike, which impressed me. The sock material also held up well. All in all a very tough, very minimal hike that offers an interesting experience and some benefits.
