Review on Dorhea LM2596 DC-DC Buck Converter Step-Down Regulator 4.0-40V To 1.25-37V DC 36V To 24V To 12V To 5V Volt Power Supply Module With LED Voltmeter Display Compatible With Car Motor Buck by Geoffrey Graham

Good overall but voltage drops with increased current output

EE here ordered LM2596LED, the device voltmeter and output voltage drops as load current increases. The problem is the feedback connection is not connected directly to the output pad (but instead is back where the inductor is). Output appears to have a 0.3 ohm drop which translates to 14.5V dropping to 14.2V when loaded with 1 amp (more current will have an even greater drop, the effect is linear). The meter appears to be accurate (19V in reported as 18.9V). FYI/instructions: pressing the button switches the meter between monitoring input or output. The meter display will change and the LED lit changes as well. The LED nearest the output will be on when you are monitoring the output voltage (and since this is a step-down regulator only, the meter will display the lower of the two numbers as well at this point). Also, as others have warned, the units appear to be dialed up to the MAX output voltage, which means whatever you put on the input roughly appears on the output. Recommend first connecting supply with NO LOAD and look at meter. Press the button to light the right-most LED (the one closest to the output of the board) then turn the trim-pot screw (top center part of the board) counter-clockwise until the voltage output on the display drops to what you want. It usually won't move at all until you have done several turns. Once set up correctly, you should then be able to attach your load.

Pros
  • Great little converter. Quick delivery.Just what I needed.
Cons
  • Voltage output may fluctuate under load
