Review on Pre-Assembled 6Ft Self-Regulating Pipe Heating Cable - 120V By HEATIT For Efficient Winter Protection by Robert Gomatham

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Working great on my outdoor water hydrant in 20 below weather

Our "Frost Free" Hydrant.didn't turn out as frost free as we hoped. To repair the drain, would be very time consuming. Since a pipe repair had to be done anyway, I put a PCV pipe 4 feet down into the ground aroudn the metal pipe. I dangled this heater cord down into the pipe, wrapped some of the heater around the top of the hydrant and used insulation and insulated tape to wrap it up. It has been below freezing for 2 1/2 months so far, it is 20 below as I am writing this with 30 below windchills, so far, no freeze issues.

Pros
  • Operates quietly, without disrupting the peace or tranquility of your home or workplace.
Cons
  • The heating cable may not be effective in preventing water leaks or pipe burst situations in all cases
