Many people have written and said that the sound is dull in this area. The ear cushions that come with these headphones were designed by engineers, so you won't be hearing any flat sound from them. These are the first pair of JBL headphones I've ever owned, and while I can't speak for their other models, in this case it's definitely worth switching out the nozzles for ones manufactured by a third party. There was no discussion of isolation at all because the nozzles were so perfect that they even entered the ear in a very secure manner. The Sennheiser CX-300 comes with its own set of nozzles. Aside from that, these are top-notch headphones; there's nothing particularly special about them, but they get the job done very effectively.
