Review on Blue Yeti USB Microphone Slate by Tamara Rodriguez

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Very good entry-level microphone

I have a Nano and this Yeti. The Nano feels good in the hand but literally has to be about an inch from your mouth to pick up the sound. So I added the Yeti to the stand for more convenience as a desktop mount. It's really a lot better than the Nano. The sound quality is generally better. I can set the mic on the side of the table to a cardioid pattern and still capture great sound. The different settings come in handy for us when doing tabletop interviews, allowing us to use surround sound or the two-way feature, both of which work well. Although Nano is a newer and more compact version, I probably won't be using my Nano anymore as it really is a lot better. I would advise everyone to choose Yeti over Yeti Nano. It's bigger, but the weight is about the same, and the height of the mic is actually an advantage. One caveat: Blue's customer support leaves a lot to be desired. You have to go through many gatekeepers before you find someone who can really help you. The first step in customer service is a very, very, REALLY stupid email test feature where you turn your mic on and off and delete any software, download, download, ONE EMAIL AT A TIME. I spent about 4 hours with support before finally getting incredibly pissed off whereupon the rep filed a ticket and I had to wait another 2 days for service. I'm giving this 3 stars for the support, not the product. The product is great and worth the money, but the support sucks and will drive you crazy. Buyer warning!

Pros
  • Custom three-capsule array: delivers clear, powerful broadcast-quality sound for YouTube, game streaming, podcasting, Skype calls and listening to music
Cons
  • Could have chosen a newer model
