Everything that's old is NEW again! Think mindfully.

I purchased these enevelopes, tracking sheets and labels for 2 reasons. Number one is that this was a method that my grandmother used for me and my sisters when we were young and secondly, it works! When I first saw these enevelopes and the system for using them I was thrilled. I guess I was also happy that all of this was going on in my head and not in "public". What I mean is usually I share a recent find with family/friends because it's usually unique and something that I really, truly need. This purchase brought me back to a time when I had a budgeting system presented to me that I remember that really worked so that's why I decided to purchase it. When I was little, my 3 younger sisters and myself spent most of our time at our maternal grandparents' home. Our dad had died suddenly and I was the oldest and the youngest was 2. My mother went back to college to finish her teaching degree and we were enrolled in school from our grandparents' home. Mom was still in our lives every day (small town) but it allowed her to focus on school full time and then she'd spend evenings and weekends with us at home or at grandma's. This was the early/mid 60's and my grandfather was retired because he had hurt his back in a work accident and my grandmother worked in a department store. How both little families made it back then I have no worldly idea, but we did. Grandma was a 2nd mom and she sat us down each night at the kitench table and we worked and completed all of our homework, (she was a retired school teacher who taught in a 1-room schoolhouse. One night, she passed out these little manila enevelopes and told us that we would be receiving a weekly allowance based on completed chores. It was really fun to see the coins add up in our envelope. When we wanted to buy something for fun, we'd have to look inside to see if we had enough first. Boy, you really make "thoughtful" decisions and not quick, knee-jerk ones when you add your money up and realize how long it took to earn it. This is such an important tool for everyone to learn that is mostly lost to the current generations because plastic cards take all of that away. It doesn't teach you to be mindful of what you are about to do. Thank you again for this wonderful product, it brought near and dear memories back and reminded me that unless I'm takiing the time to stop and think first before I make a purchase, I'll most likely make a quick, thoughtless and in the longrun, the wrong decision. I'm really grateful to have this lesson brought back to me so I can remind my friends and especialy my son, what I learned when I was 9 years old. Maybe it's true that, "everything that's old is NEW again! I would have included pictures but I'm 64 and not that advanced in my computer skills yet. Laura D
