Review on Plustek OpticFilm 8200i SE scanner black by Janis Riekstins ᠌

Revainrating 4 out of 5

The product is completely satisfied, performs its functions.

I bought it in the summer, I'm satisfied, but . The assembly is terrible, the buttons are loose, the rubber frames on the sides are peeling off. The frame for the film is flimsy, its dividing strips are thick, the last frames no longer stand up straight. The case is quite convenient, after scanning, you can hide the scanner from dust. SilverFast itself is very buggy: braking, freezing, crashes. The scanner scans quickly (I scan at 3600dpi, TIFF, then I convert and compress for the web, it works better this way), if you load it with infrared correction, multiple exposures, then the scanning time increases noticeably. The advantages of the scanner are that it’s still not a photo lab for you, where your negatives are scanned almost without looking, and they charge a lot of money for it, and yet these are not flatbed scanners, which are unlikely to reach this kid in clarity and color reproduction (before that was Epson). You have the opportunity to get beautiful, high-quality photos. If you are just a beginner photographer, then the mania will immediately begin, first you will start studying silverFast, Photoshop, then you will want to ate the carcass and optics park, then you will think about buying a monitor, because this scanner makes you feel what a negative is. So from an ordinary photographer, I turned into a novice amateur photographer. The scanner never becomes cheaper, but only becomes more expensive, so I do not advise you to postpone the purchase for this reason.

Pros
  • 1) scan quality. 2)silver fast with its tools is good on its own, but often crashes. 3) a convenient bag with protective inserts.
Cons
  • 1) buggy Silver Fast. 2) disgusting frame for negatives. 3) poor assembly
