Bit that is slightly LARGER than the size of the anchor. THAT DOES NOT WORK! Using a drill LARGER than the anchor will end up making a hole in the wall LARGER than the anchor and the plastic anchor will just rotate when you try to tighten the screw. You will need to use a drill that is slightly SMALLER than the dowel to ensure the dowel fits snugly in the hole. But even that isn't the best advice. Because I pulled out my digital calipers and measured the size of the anchors and got a drill bit one size smaller than the average diameter of the anchor I measured and the hole I made was still too big . You must ignore the notices in the product description and the answers to questions. All the other anchors I've used in my life - and I've used a lot of these plastic anchors - they tell you exactly what size drill to use and it works correctly every time.
