I recently decided to upgrade our network switches for fiber optic connections. This has significantly increased the speed of our internal network. (shared files, etc.) Our Cisco switches were really just plug and play. Note that some managed switches have an Ethernet port that is identical to a fiber optic port. If you are both connected, it will fall into the network and cause all sorts of problems (which it did in my case).
