Not exactly the product that I wanted, the price and quality do not match.

1. Works only when connected via two USB (double-head cable included). And I also had to select these two USBs by typing - apparently some pairs of connectors in my computer are connected to one USB port, and it was overloaded. 2. I have an old 8 year old desktop computer. The Toshiba drive installed in it from birth is still alive, but it is CD-RW and buzzes like an airplane on takeoff. 3. Bought about 4 years ago, the NEC DVD-RW worked great, writing and reading literally everything that was inserted into it. But nothing lasts forever. 4. Since in life you need to burn CDs and DVDs regularly, I had to go to the store. IDE drives are now an expensive rarity, so I took an external one, buying into the ASUS brand. Impressions are more than ambiguous. It seems to work, but you expect some small dirty tricks from him. Either the device is clumsy, or it's time to change the computer.

Pros
  • 1. Works quietly (in the sense it does not make noise). Against the background of ordinary household sounds, it can even be considered completely silent.
Cons
  • 1. The impression was made that it is extremely exacting to quality of disks. Moreover, only the Taiwanese spirit knows what quality he needs discs. Sometimes it refuses to see discs that are normally read by other devices, such as a home music center. I was especially surprised by the fact that while reading normally one of the DVD-RW discs, it stubbornly refused to clear it: for some reason, it periodically lost it. I managed to clear this disk from the 4th or 5th time (I had to mess around late in the evening, when all the shops were already closed), even some kind of excitement appeared - will I erase it or not? And after that, I normally made a recording on the long-suffering disk. 2. Contrary to the instructions that say it is compatible with Windows XP SP2, it practically refused to work until I installed the Power2Go program from the supplied CD. Moreover, Autosetup gave an error message and was interrupted. The branded disc was opened from the second time! I found setup in the directory and ran it manually - during the installation process I got error messages a couple of times. As a result, he earned, he writes new discs from the store. But it's far from plug-and-play. 3. It also comes with a proprietary program from ASUS, which calculates how many kW of electricity and how many trees are saved, thanks to the use of this wonderful device. How many of them are burned for nothing because of the clumsiness of the drive, there is no calculation.

Has pros: Works. For some reason, manufacturers still supply drivers for motherboards, etc. on disks, so the thing is sometimes needed. Some cons: The disc is put on the central holder a bit tight. For some reason, it is made in a "foppish" design, although in general it gives the impression of a budget item, which it is.
