About a year ago I bought a very cheap Chinese fake umbrella Swift - light green plastic device. It only took a few uses before it all started to break down and permanently tangled my socks. I was fed up and couldn't afford to buy the original so I looked for alternatives and found this product. In short, I will never return! This Amish style wood winder is way better than the umbrella style! It is durable, reliable to assemble and easy to transport without having to look for a place in the room to attach it. Any flat surface will do - table, bed, floor, etc. It will take a little trial and error at first to figure out which pin positions work best for your strand, but it doesn't require any effort - you don't need to know the dimensions of your strand don't really know, just keep moving until it's tight enough. So easy to set up, assemble and disassemble, this Swift is worth every penny. Highly recommended!
