Buy another thermal switch and longer hose

2001 Cummins Ram 2500. Overall an excellent product. The fittings that come with the cooler leak a bit even with the o-ring. Make sure the o-rings and threads are in good condition before installing this part. The compression fittings that come with them work, but the caps are cheap and I had to buy a new one. About 0.50 cents and a trip to the hydraulic depot. I mounted mine under the bed of my truck and strapped it to the front of the factory radiator. Due to bypassing the heat exchanger in the truck, I bought this one. I drew my own lines because his kit only gives you 10 feet. I used 27 feet. So buy yourself a hose. Don't expect 1/2 ID tubing at parts stores, so get it here. The thermal switch sucks. It didn't work when my temp went up to 187-193. I flipped the switch to turn on the fan and the temperature dropped quickly just as I was sitting in the driveway. I bought a second thermal switch because everyone said they break easily. Apply thread sealant only to the top and front of the sensor, otherwise the actual temperature will not be measured and the fan will not turn on. I checked the hot water switches on the stove. Both turned on at 180 and off at 150 after I cleaned the thread sealant. If that doesn't work properly I will hardwire the fan and bypass the switch all together. Even without the fan running, my temp never went above 193. It's a bit warm for me, but with no airflow, you can't expect more when towing.

Pros
  • Electric fan for optimal airflow
Cons
  • Minor
