There are 10 brightness levels.I found the standard base may be a bit too light if you want the magnifier down to around 4 inches off the tabletop . It can easily tip over - some added weight to the base will fix this however.I had to practice looking through the lens with both eyes open. At 3 X magnification, squinting with one eye open does not work!.Overall , this a great item to have for the house, garage or craft room.The entire family thinks it's awesome!PS.
