One of the best sewing instructions available

This is one of the best sewing instructions available. If you're new to sewing or don't have basic sewing instructions, this is probably one of the best investments you can make to learn or replicate a technique before applying it to your fashion fabric. A special feature is the fabric width conversion table, which is very useful if you know how much fabric you need for a certain width and find your favorite fabric in a different width. There's a pretty comprehensive guide to fabrics out there, including suggestions on what designs work with each type of fabric. The pattern section is particularly good with tips on how to change the position of the darts and how to perform almost any type of pattern change. Changing patterns is probably one of the most difficult tasks for a beginner seamstress, and this book provides excellent instructions on how to accomplish those changes. There's also a pretty good section to make adjustments depending on how the muslin garment fits ie. whether there are tensions or creases in different places - how do these creases tell you which part of the pattern needs adjustment and how to make the adjustment. Of course, there is also a section on how to measure yourself. The instructions for each technique are beautifully illustrated and there seems to be a good balance between the number of instructions in the illustrations versus "words". Each chapter, containing an example project, is probably one of the most difficult tasks for a novice seamstress, and this book provides excellent instructions on how to achieve these changes.
