Very very happy with this unit

I did field recordings of a Bushman choir in Botswana. I wanted to play back to the band what they had just recorded, but my recorder speakers couldn't get it loud enough. My colleague hooked up external speakers, which delivered almost solid distortion at sufficient volume. I figured that when I got back to the US I would need to find an external speaker that 1) can play loud, 2) sound decent, and 3) run on batteries. Im9 is perfect for that. These boxes can play quite loudly, so I used them…

Great speakers for the iPod!

I used to connect my iPod to the stereo speakers in our living room with a $9 splitter cable. But earlier this year my husband upgraded his Tivo and moved the old one to the family room and I ran out of iPod jacks. (BU! OT, now it's nice to have two Tivos too!) I already had the iM600 speaker dock, which is handy for small spaces and very portable due to its light weight and rechargeable battery. But for our family room (where we do most of our entertaining), the acoustics aren't great and the…

Great for mobile massage

Before purchasing this item I've been using SonicImpact portable speakers for iPod for over 4 years (they're finished) so I needed something permanent. , delivered good sound at low to medium volume, was portable, and uses an AC adapter instead of a battery. This portable speaker is perfect.* It's solid, although a bit heavier than I expected* The sound quality is perfect for the volume levels I use (bass, mids and treble are well represented).* I can use the EQ settings easily customize or…

Great iPod speaker, possibly discontinued

I have had one of these for about a year and a half and am very happy with its performance. I paid about [.] dollars for it on Revain and now (8/2009) it is sold on Revain by several third party vendors for about [.] dollars. So it seems that the IM9 may no longer be made and that a couple of dodgy sellers are luring potential buyers for the last few units they have in stock. If you want one go straight to the Altec Lansing website where the IM9 is currently (21st August 2009) available for…

BEST iPod Portable Speaker (edited by LONG TERM TEST)

I got my im9 a week ago and am in love with this thing. I've owned over 20 different boom boxes and portable players in my life. I live in Miami and go to the pools and beach regularly. This is the best portable audio system. Great sound, great portability and powered by 4C batteries that last 18-22 hours. The price seemed a little high but now I understand it's worth every penny. This is a great high quality product. The only competitor I've seen is the Altec Lansing im7. I read reviews that…

Great Sound in Portable Audio & Video

I bought this speaker system for two reasons: the sound quality and the fact that the iPod is completely enclosed. I could never understand why so many systems are designed so that the iPod hangs dangerously on the front, is easily knocked over, and the buttons are difficult to press with one hand. Sound Quality: I've compared this to around 12 other speakers, not counting the much more expensive Klipsch and Bose systems, it clearly outperformed in terms of sound quality. The bass is not only…

Completely satisfied with portable speakers and docking stations

I first bought a Cyber Acoustics portable iPod dock ($47) to use in my home gym. But after realizing that the CA didn't support my iPod 3G, a 30GB model purchased in 2003, I returned it to Revain and began looking for a suitable replacement in the same price range. Reviews of the Altec Lansing iM9 ($50) convinced me this might be the ticket, so I gave it a try. I'm glad I did. Wonder of wonders, my iPod went straight into the dock with no adapters (although there were three or four different…

The best I ever used, recommend it to everybody.

Satisfied with the purchase - a very profitable purchase. Has some pros Good sound, especially bass - plays no worse than some full-fledged boomboxes. Mobility. Possibility to connect any sound source via AUX 3.5 mm input, especially outdoors. Relatively long battery life (4 pcs. SS) Easily and conveniently connects to a laptop as additional acoustics - you want from the network (in the apartment), you want from batteries (in nature). Its cons: There is no handle, or at least holes for…
