🔐 Brinks 173-80051 Stainless Steel Discus Padlock with Resettable Combination, 80mm Review

Used a lock on the outside door of the tool shed. After two weeks on the road, the lock backed up. The numbers could not be rotated to open the lock. Rusted/jammed. The manufacturer must state that this lock should only be used internally, as should the internal storage. Do not buy if you plan to use this lock outdoors. It won't last.

Almost from day one the locks were difficult to pick, they were used outdoors and it was almost impossible to turn the code wheels with wet hands. After a few weeks, the mechanism to open the lock became so difficult to turn that my wife could not open it. I smeared them with the ease of a lock and still no joy. I returned them. Terrible product!

To open this lock - regardless of the combination - you only have to set all 4 dials to 0 and turn the small dial on the back with a coin. Absolutely outrageous - there is no security mechanism to prevent the lock from being factory reset while it is LOCKED. It's too late to send them back and get me a replacement when I move - let's hope nobody who wants to open my module knows how to use google.

These locks are in the common gate I issue a combination to authorized persons. The dial is so picky and if you are not precise. I don't mean that you have to have the right combination. What I mean is that the dial needs to be aligned within a basillion fraction of an inch. They wiggle and giggle, and when you feel like it, it pops open. I have no time for that. See update below: I bought this to lock my Shanghai Baoshan Pacific built container box. My biggest concern was that the mounting knobs on the box would fit into the hole in the bracket. It is, see picture. This lock is resistant to bolt cutters. The case feels adequate but lacks the heavy-duty feel of more expensive padlocks.
