Excellent Standby Performance

Baofeng has a bad reputation in the ham circles I work with. I'm here to say no, Baofeng is great! It is an ideal backup for field use and a great addition as a backup power source. I mainly use CERT and ARES for my local team, I had mixed opinions on this purchase but I will end up saying to the skeptics that this is one of those things you would like to have if you need it, I didn't have to make one statements. .

Should have bought these first.

Okay I bought a similar item from another seller for about half the price - it worked for the radio but was disappointed that it couldn't provide power during transmission. Went ahead and ordered the BTECH battery rectifier version - it works great! Yes, a few bucks more (not that much actually), but it's perfect for radio and I don't see any reduction in power consumption anymore. Forget others. Go with!

Battery: perfect fit, car charger: great, but feels fragile.

Not much to say about that. It fits my F8HP perfectly. That means I have a way to turn on the radio even if the power goes out. I don't plan on using it in place of the standard battery, but in addition just in case (or when I'm traveling with a radio so I don't have to carry a charger around, I'm too lazy). I'm very happy with the fit and the ease of changing the battery. This is a great addition to a great radio. UPDATE: I also recently received a car charger. This works very well. Fits right

Perfect fit and very tactical look

Got it off the amateur radio wish list as a birthday present. The first thing to know about this battery is that you don't need a simple charger to charge the battery. You only need a separately sold power supply, ideal for traveling or camping with a separately sold retractable solar panel. The traditional way to bring this battery to full capacity is to fully charge it on a recommended charging basis without connecting to a radio station. After charging, connect the radio, turn it on and hold

Works but needs a quick fix to be sure.

As other reviewers have pointed out, the top center battery connector can easily come loose and touch the other connector, shorting out the battery. * I have not experienced this. *Although as a precaution I taped the top middle battery connector to keep it from dangling. See photo. After this quick fix, it works safely and as expected. With 6x NiMH, the battery life is significantly longer (2-3 times) than the 1100mAh Li-ion battery that comes with the Baofeng UV-5R. Another downside to this…

Great product but needs a bit of work

Great product, I like that unlike others they come with a pacifier. I ordered two of these and both could come apart at the bottom if the tab doesn't click properly. A little grinding and now the latches work fine. Update: Fire hazard if not changed. The metal pin that runs down the center channel of the battery may come loose on its own and touch one of the pins that power the radio. When this happens the metal turns red, the plastic starts to melt then I'm sure a fire will ensue, but I had an

I am impressed! (See Attention)

I'm impressed! This is quality work. The plastic is high quality and thick enough to be strong enough. It looks very solid and fits my radio perfectly. With the batteries installed, you can't tell it's a 3800mAh battery. Battery performance depends on the batteries used, but with the 3800mah NiMH batteries it lasted much longer than the 3800mah lithium battery I bought with the radio. By the way, that's why I bought this battery box. The Baofeng 3800mAh LiON battery I bought is completely empty

Great product in itself, even better when modified!

It feels solid and is of excellent quality for the price. I had no problem fixing it on my Baofeng F8HP as other reviewers said. In any case, a major downside that I have found with most hams is the ability to charge the battery. I bought an emergency preparedness ham radio and quickly found that all I had was an AC adapter to charge the original battery. If the power went out for a long time and my car ran out of gas, I couldn't use my radio. I have modified most of my devices to work with…
