Great product, huge time saver troubleshooting AV RS232 control.

As an AV professional, this saves a lot of time when troubleshooting RS232/serial control. This eliminates the need for guessing if the TX and RX have been swapped, and for pulling out your multimeter and trying to juggle DB9 test leads and cables in your hands with a flashlight. My only issue that I and others who have reviewed this product have had is an issue with the screw that prevents it from being plugged into a device such as a TV's RS232 port for the serial TX pinout determine. This is

A find for hacking retro RS232.

I did a lot of work on my old Radio Shack computer with TTL and RS232 devices. These gadgets were very helpful in understanding CTS, RTS and other hardware signals on the line. Cheap and efficient.

This device is perfect. LEDs BI-COLOR LEDs

This device is perfect. The LEDs are bi-color LEDs, glowing green when the voltage is high (unconfirmed) and red when the voltage is low (confirmed) so you can tell TX from RX without having to transmit data - it's very simple , to recognize the most common problem . ie whether it is DTE or DCE (and whether you need a null modem or not). You can immediately see if modem control is active, even if it is not active. The only thing that can improve this is a jumper. Holes and jumpers to quickly…

Great tester. good for serial adapters

Although serial connection devices are a thing of the past, there are still a large number of devices that do not support a standard USB connection and require a serial port connection. Unfortunately, serial devices don't connect as easily as USB devices, and so some level of troubleshooting is often required to get them working. This handy little channel tester can prove invaluable for determining if a serial link is properly paired and whether a connection exists. I have used several devices…

Not bad but could be better

The attached picture shows that the device is simple and informative. It is built into a nice plastic case. But. It could have been better. Along with a similar device, it can be seen that there is no way on this device to separate individual lines, which would allow input/output redirection if necessary. Each device has its own strengths, but most users of such devices will appreciate the ability to use more features in a less beautiful design. After all, this is a test device only and is not…

Convenient and easy to use - for us dinosaurs

I have the 25 pin version that I have used for years with gender bends and adapters. Much easier to use a 9 pin monitor. It's easy to use, lightweight and easy to read. It's great for us dinosaurs who still use RS-232 instead of USB or with a USB to RS-232 cable.

Pros
  • Great overall performance
Cons
  • I won't say anything

Great tester. the best of computer cable adapters

Devices that are not available with their own USB port and require a serial connection . Unfortunately, serial devices don't connect as easily as USB devices, and so some level of troubleshooting is often required to get them working. This handy little channel tester can prove invaluable for determining if a serial link is properly paired and whether a connection exists. I have used several devices of this type over the years and this particular 9 pin device comes in very handy. The only…

Cons

It works fine - with a simple hook.

It does what it says it does and does it well. The LEDs give you a very clear idea of what is going on in your serial cable. The only downside is that this device is designed for a pass-through connection (one side is male, one side is female), but both sides have a female mounting screw. holes. That means you can't connect it to almost anything directly, as almost all serial ports on computers and even devices have holes for female screws as well. If you unscrew the screw holes with a hex…

Pros
  • Dual color LED for easy transmission verification and data retrieval
Cons
  • Cable is shorter than other options

Great - does what it's supposed to

9 is definitely out of stock and it was a blessing to find it at Revain. I needed a built in, easy to use and understand test box to test the signals from the control panel to the external RS-232 control port and the installed video projectors. I need to figure out when the projector won't turn on or off from the wall controls, whether it's the wall controls/wiring or the projector - if I call the wrong vendor responsible for the warranty/repair I'll eat up the cost increase for a support call.

Pros
  • RS-232 DB-9 / DB25 pinout No power required
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
