Really good USB Serial Hack Adapter

I bought this after my previous (supposedly 3.3V) serial cable stopped working after connecting to a 3.3V system. It is very nicely finished - it's in housed in a transparent case (no fear of accidental short circuits when fumbling around) and allows you to choose an output voltage of 1.8, 3.3 or 5V (not 2.5, although DSD has another block that also has 2, adds 5V). .) A cable is included that connects to the I/O port on the end of the USB adapter that terminates in the 1x1 connector pins - itโ€ฆ

Pros
  • understandable for the old
Cons
  • look

Great FTDI based device

I found this device after a lot of trying and failed to find a product that fits my needs. I bought a dozen of these and they all work well in harsh environments. hot gear rework needed to add the DTR pin. It was easy to work with the material and the cover.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Cable is shorter than others

Programming Arduino

Works great, very well done For those of you wanting to program Arduino with it, you MUST have a bootloader installed in order to use it as a programmer

Pros
  • Easy Install
Cons
  • Boring Package

Great tool for embedded developers

This product is a great solution for connecting SOC UART to your development environment. It's very easy to switch between 1.8V, 3.3V and 5V logic. It also has a nice plastic case, so the electronics on your desk aren't likely to short out anything. However, it is very attractive for geeks because its body is made of transparent plastic.

Pros
  • Satisfied so far
Cons
  • Some small things

I really like this device

There are many serial to USB adapters on the market but I really like this one and I have bought several of these for use at home and at work. The ability to select several different voltages for the interface using jumpers allows the device to be used in different situations. Very nice physical presentation and easy to set up and use. Highly recommended.

Pros
  • Wow
Cons
  • I vaguely remember

Works great on Linux

Works great on Linux. I wanted this to work in bit burst mode at different voltages (just set the lines high or low instead of using the serial port). This works with libftdi/pylibftdi. You only get four I/O lines: TXD (low order), RXD, RTS, and CTS. VCC and Ground occupy two pins. Note that to use bit burst mode you must disable each serial connection: 'rmmod ftdi_sio'

Pros
  • Certified
Cons
  • Fair

Really good hack usb serial adapter

I bought this after my previous serial cable (believed to be 3.3v) stopped working after connecting to a 3.3v system. It works, but the installation is corrupt.

I like that there are straps for different tension levels. It has a transparent body with signal lines clearly marked - very nice. This will come in handy. If you just plug this thing in, it won't do anything. I use other FTDI devices (including some of our designs) and they work just by plugging them in. This requires their driver, and that's fine. .After installing the driver, a reset is required - unusual, but normal. I wasn't ready to reset because I was in the process of editing andโ€ฆ

  • Electronics
Cons
  • Slightly torn

It's ONE do-it-all, in one rugged case

I have a ton of different serial adapters scattered around my desk and I hardly ever use them. Either it's loose wires with unmarked leads, or they're 5v when I need 3 by 3, or the power supply isn't marked either! Or my workspace is so messy that another empty board is just a recipe to short my computer's USB port. However, this is actually the only device I need to have. It appears to be a real FTDI chip (0403:6001) with selectable power and logic levels. The pins are clearly labeled and itโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Computers and Accessories
Cons
  • High Price
