Great little mSATA/USB 3.0 adapter/case

This mSATA/USB adapter and case work great. This is an incredibly fast flash drive, but only slightly larger. A metal case dissipates heat much better than other cheap plastic cases. It's also nice to have a detachable standard microUSB cable, unlike some other brands that plug in because it's smaller, and if you break it, forget it, or lose it, you can buy it at your local store or maybe, like me, many have extra lines. from external 2.5" drives.

The screw heads will likely come loose

In my case it was the two screws securing the SSD, not the end cap. The end cap was packed in a zipper with many small screws. The screws holding the SSD were very tight and the heads started to peel off. I managed to unscrew them with pliers. After that everything went fine. The connector is an early USB 3 connector. I have them on some older items but haven't attempted to purchase them recently. I was able to use the adapter to transfer my operating system etc to the new drive but it almost…

Slow and Hot for HDD Enclosures

Installation was quick and the size is just great. However, the first thing that struck me was that the speed seemed slow. I did a quick test and copied 4GB to the hard drive and it took about 39 seconds. I used the same Eluteng 2.5" SSD with a SATA to USB 3.0 cable and it only took 26 seconds. Also, I left it plugged into my computer all day and nothing accessed the drive. , It was very hot. I wanted to like this item because it looks cool and is pretty cheap, but I can't give it more than 2…

Ok but missing some hardware for 30mm mSATA

Bought because I was throwing away a laptop with a "half" (30mm) mSATA SSD and wanted to keep the drive as an external storage option. It gets the job done except for one thing. There are holes for a 30mm mSATA drive, but there are no risers on the board nor hardware to securely attach it to the board. The drive still fits and works in the case; All you have to do is push it in and hold it while you move the board around in the case (think of it like a friction fit). The included cable uses a…

The Lifesaver of Computer Accessories and Peripherals

I purchased this unit after receiving a message that my hard drive was about to fail. I created a recovery disk but it failed to install after 92% completion. I didn't want to reinstall the operating system, programs and drivers from scratch. After reading the previous reviews I was hesitant to choose this case. I don't know if they changed anything but I didn't have the problems described in other reviews. It's very easy to assemble and the included screwdriver fits the screws perfectly. The…

Fix for use with Raspberry PI 4

I bought this product to use with Raspberry PI 4. With the default settings I've seen very slow startup times as well as unmount errors in dmesg. The implementation of UAS on this device does not work well with PI. Adding the following line at the beginning of the /boot/cmdline.txt file will disable UAS and devices will revert to usb-storage:usb-storage.quirks=152d:0578:u. After applying this change and reloading the test, the tests I ran show a write speed of 115 MB/s and a read speed of 225…

Essential for migrating data to a new larger drive

When I bought my Intel NUC a few years ago, I installed a 256GB mSATA drive. I guess I knew it wouldn't be enough in the long run, but that's what I was willing to spend at the time. I got to the point where I wanted to double that size, but what's the most efficient way to move everything to a new, larger drive? This adapter was the perfect solution. It was very easy to insert a new drive and connect it to my computer via USB, then clone the old drive to the new one, extend the partition on…

Small and fast, heats up

[Edit]: Apparently there is an updated version that is now for sale. This is an overview of the previous version. This bag and adapter are very useful. I used it with a 128GB SSD I saved from a PC. It works incredibly well with high transfer rates. Assembly is also very simple, you simply insert the SSD, screw it into the adapter and slide the entire tray under the end cap mounting holes. I particularly liked the small screwdriver that came with it. The only issue I had was that there is no…

Works great with a spare mSATA SSD

EDIT (April 2019) Not the case I was considering. Looks like ELUTENG have a new model much bigger than the one I checked. for efficient circuit board layout). It uses a JMicron JMS578 controller and a USB 3.0 A to Micro B connection cable. I know USB-C is all the rage right now, but I'm fed up with lots of different USB cables for different devices, so it's nice that it uses the same type of cable as most of my other USB 3.0 enclosures. Windows 10 as well as Debian and Raspbian GNU/Linux. I was
