Something different for the learning curve

Items arrived exactly as described and delivery was very quick. After watching a few videos on YouTube, I was able to connect and program my ESP-32 camera! I am sure that I will need them for future projects as well.

Real FTDI chip suitable for computer accessories and peripherals

They are very well made and are immediately recognized as FTDI in Windows 10. All four come on the same board. You have to take them apart yourself to separate them into four separate boards. They use "old" mini USB cables (not micro cables), so you'll need to find one to use them. Very important! With the cycle test, all four work great.

    Worked for my application

Very inexpensive serial board. After downloading the Windows drivers from the FTDI website, the serial port showed up as VCP and I was able to connect to my application. Download and run the executable setup file from the FTDI website. It's a bit tricky and tricky, but you can get there quite easily. I connected the RX and TX pins directly to the corresponding TX and RX pins of my application along with a GND connection. Choose the right voltage level for your applications. I used 3.3V.

These FTDI chips appear to be fake.

    - These chips have different logo engravings - The official utility FTDO FTProg does not recognize the device - Update: serial number A50285BI is a common fake serial number - EEPROM setting does not work via libftdi as it works on the original Chip with the same program - The chip says 232RL while there is no L in the USB device name - "Issue number" in the EEPROM is 0000 - Of the two I unpacked, one doesn't even turn on. My chip doesn't work because I need to invert. It might work if you just

Counterfeit goods in computer cable adapters

All these FT232 boards have the same serial number A50285BI which is the generic serial number for counterfeit FTDI FT232 chips. Real chips have unique serial numbers, so more than one can be connected to the same PC at the same time. I have not been able to successfully serialize these boards with a real FTDI driver, although they are partially functional. The chips are FTDI branded and presented as genuine, not clones or replacements.

    4/4 work fine no jumpers

Four out of four work great. They didn't come with the little jumpers you need to select 5V or 3.3V operation. So make sure you find some of these, or get ready to solder the pins together.

    Identical serial numbers

Bought four, all with the same serial numbers. I've tried flashing it with FTDI software but it's clearly ROM encoded. The devices will work with Windows, but their COM port number will change depending on which USB port you plug them into. I have Linux in VirtualBox and only the first one is skipped and assigned to port /dev/ttyUSB0. All others will not participate.

Fakes as usual, but they somehow work

They're cheap and mostly work, but they have (as expected) fake FT232RL chips with the same serial number. So if you need to use more than one of them on the same computer, it's impossible to tell them apart. She.

Poor packaging for computer and accessories

Adapters work properly. They come with no documentation except for the silkscreen on the circuit board, which is partially obscured by the components. One of the blocks I received had a broken jumper so it couldn't be configured to run on 3.3V. They're packaged as multiple blocks that are still connected together, so you'll have to snap the circuit boards together to separate them. (The circuit boards are notched for this purpose). One unit also had a small chipped circuit board under the USB…

Buyers beware, good computer accessories and peripherals

Well they work. If you plan on just using them alone, that's fine. A bit annoying is that the ft232rl chip is fake. I'd like to know how they get away with it. I don't know if that's better, but other Chinese suppliers tell you that this part is not genuine. The FTDI part has an onboard EEPROM that can be programmed, but not, or at least not, with the software provided by FTDI. You have to be careful. Windows requires a unique serial number if you want to assign a specific port number to a…
