Very pleasantly surprised

Although my car has had built in navigation for many years, I bought this unit to use when traveling out of town with a rental car. I was amazed by its ease of use and complexity for a device that costs a fraction of the cost of factory installed devices. The system is intuitive, the screen easy to read and precise. Unlike my in-built system, this system constantly displays your current speed and I have relied on the navigation system's speedometer rather than my car's. It's come down from the…

Excellent GPS navigator for sports and handheld GPS

I like this device because it has a 4.3 inch touch screen. My other was the original nuvi 204. It has a 3.4 touchscreen. I also found two other 204w units at Revain for twenty dollars each. I will order on Wednesday. I just wish they had a USB cable for indoor charging and map updates. Don't worry, I found it on Revain for less than $5. Anyway I know there are better devices out there but this GPS is very accurate in the information. and works perfectly. I bought this GPS because of the larger…

Gotta love Garmin!

I ordered this GPS a few months ago after deciding to buy a new one instead of paying $65 for map updates. It made little sense to me to pay a little less for an upgrade than for a brand new one. Of course I like it much better. They have improved the functions so that you can not only make it easier to enter an address, but also see the current speed as well as the displayed speed. The maps seem much more complete (although this may be because I'm back in "civilization" and not living in…

Great entry level GPS

I bought my Garmin nuvi 205w a few months ago when I moved to a new city. Since I was notoriously averse to getting lost, I figured it was best to invest in something that at least reached the nearest interstate. And honestly, that was pretty much the only requirement for my GPS. I chose Garmin because I've had experience with them in the past and the ones I've used before have been fairly reliable. I think a certain amount of common sense is required with any GPS but for the most part the…

Wonderful! for starters

This is my first GPS. I have to say that I was hesitant to take it because of the bad reviews, but I think I got lucky. My GPS is very accurate for the Los Angeles area where I do most of my travels. The GPS doesn't speak street names, but will show you the name on screen and clearly display the turn arrow and distance to the next turn in miles and even feet. It calculates the approximate time of arrival at the destination (excluding traffic jams, which this model does not provide). It also…

Improved but still not great

I'll give a comparison for those who have also looked at earlier devices, especially 7x0 models. 2x5 devices have a faster processor, and routing and menus are noticeably faster. The display is cleaner too, showing miles per hour on the main screen. Compared to the relatively mature 760, it's MUCH more stable, probably due to fewer (useless) features. As mentioned, the touchscreen isn't as good as the older 7x0 models and needs a firmer tap. Also, the display isn't as bright and voice prompts…

No complaints yet.

I am very happy with the Garmin 205W. It is very easy to use as Garmin offers one of the best user interfaces on the market. The screen is a good size and bright. I never had to wait more than 10-15 seconds for satellites to be found. Redraws (updates) frequently and quickly. I also LOVE that it shows the speed limit for most roads and highways, especially in unfamiliar areas. Despite the new changes/upgrades, I don't know if it's worth upgrading from the 200, but considering I'm getting the…

Very good entry-level GPS device

Good: good routes, clear voice, lots of volume and accurate maps. The colors of the map seem a bit childish. Conclusion: The Garmin Nuvi 205w is a solid entry-level device for basic navigation needs. If you are looking for extras this is not the place to find them. Below is my detailed review based on usage. ADJUSTMENT: Your overall level of comfort with technology and electronics really determines how important this aspect of the device is as you should rarely, albeit more than once, perform…
