🧵 Mastering the Art of French Sewing by Machine: Heirloom Techniques for Women Review

Although I am new to heirloom quilting, this book is mostly about the pattern history. Lots of sketches and a few photos of blouses, skirts and dresses. Unfortunately my book came without templates (but it had a great seller and I will use them again). I'm going to talk to my teacher about turning a pattern into an heirloom. I would like to sew a floor length nightgown from a family heirloom.

If you have a romantic heart then this book is for you whether you sew or not. Just beautiful pictures of lace and piping and all sorts of details that strike me as Victorian. I'm a regular clown who would never attempt anything like the articles in this book, but I got the book because I love the part of Martha's PBS series where she shows the heirloom dresses and I just enjoy it , to sit and leaf through it.

This large hardcover book by Martha Pullen, a superb television educator, reveals many of her ideas and methods of creating women's clothing and other items from fine lace and exquisite fabrics. Reading is interesting, inspiring and educational. Almost every page has very precise, crisp illustrations that draw lines with text, and in the center of the book are pages of beautifully colored plates showing whimsical creations made using the French sewing technique.
