A wonderful product, its nice to use.

My wife gave me a tripod, choosing it according to the principle "looks nice". At first, I did not quite understand why I needed to rotate the central pillar by 90 degrees. But then, indulging in macro, I appreciated the beauty of this mechanism. The tripod is awesome. Leg angles are fixed with stops in 4 positions. The height can be adjusted by extending the center pillar. By turning it 90 degrees, you can get a very stable structure for macro. Yes, and in principle, you can flatten the…

Pros
  • Sturdy, well made. Good plastic, metal, gum. Nothing backlash even after a year.
Cons
  • The overall weight is decent. You won't wear one like this for long. With photographic equipment and this tripod, somewhere in nature you feel like a machine gunner setting up a position.

Exactly what I needed

I really like this tripod! It's not too big and not too small. I do food photography indoors and when it's fully extended I have enough space to work in the kitchen without tripping over it. I spent a good week trying to figure out which one I wanted and I couldn't be happier with my purchase. I've only been shooting for a year and this is a great tripod for me that meets all my needs (plus some). It doesn't have a spirit level, but that's ok because it's built into my camera. I know some…

Manfrotto quality and good product

This is my second purchase of the Manfrotto 290 tripod. I bought it for my husband as he kept 'borrowing' my tripod to shoot videos in his workshop . I love the versatility of this tripod and use it weekly for photography for my blog and books. You can extend your arm at a 90 degree angle to shoot from above. Ideal for food photography or video recording from above. It was supposed to come with a ball head, but instead we received a box with a 3-way head kit. The UPC label said "ball head kit"…

Pros
  • Premium Italian design

  • Almost everything there

You don't need this tripod; Leg locking mechanism cracked and broken

You may not want to buy this 290 series tripod from Manfrotto. affordable price. However, this affordable price will cost you more than just money; Time. Time you'll never get back. Due to the tripod legs' fragile locking mechanisms, it will cost you time to return this tripod. When I receive a tripod from an online order, the first thing I check is that all the legs are articulated and extend smoothly. . There have been times when I've bought a tripod only to find that one of its parts was…

This is an amazing tripod. I have another brand and zero.

update. I use tripods every day. I have both brands. Both tripods were used in Colorado. We loaded the tripods into the truck and the next time I pulled them out, Manfrotto broke the part blocking the leg. I have no idea if it got caught somewhere while loading or what. It's okay, I thought, a guarantee. Manfrotto was willing to cover the warranty but no US parts. They said I can ship it and it may take 3 months for them to send it back to me. I asked for a replacement or even a lower price…

Extremely useful and durable.

This rating refers to the MT290DUA3US. I have other tripods that are cheaper (much cheaper!) and can handle more weight, are bigger, weigh less and/or come with a metal ball head. The tripods I am talking about are also made by reputable companies (Dolica & ProAm USA) and I would highly recommend them to anyone but when it came time to buy another tripod I only wanted one. Sliders, motorized sliders and many other gadgets, the 90 degree retractable center column is such a nice feature. Whether…

You don't need this tripod; Cracked and broken leg locking mechanism

Chances are you don't want to buy this 290 Series tripod from Manfrotto. Of course, the price can be tempting, especially when you can get a tripod head and legs for such a low price. However, this affordable price will cost you more than just money; Time. Time you'll never get back.
