Received this unit today, bought 2 and they work perfectly. One is for PS3 designed for HP analog monitor and the other is for backup only. Let's see what happens in 3 years? :)+ for excellent build quality (cables, connectors and the device itself). Featured!

I've had about 5 of these. different vendors different "brands" but I could only get 1 of them to work but not for very long. Multiple monitors, multiple video sources, multiple cables. I've been a computer engineer and network/IT administrator for over 25 years. I know what I am doing. Not the seller's fault, just a defective product.

Does exactly what it should. We bought this to connect the laptop to an extra monitor. It uses the laptop's HDMI output and connects it to an old monitor with a (blue) VGA connector. Remember that HDMI is digital and VGA is analog. You can connect a digital output to an analog output, but not vice versa. To do this, you need some kind of converter.

This adapter does not fit my HDMI port. I found that this was due to the incorrect shape of the inner plastic case. The inner edge is heavily beveled as you can see in the photos and this prevents the adapter from mating with the port. Poor production to say the least. Don't waste time buying it only to find it doesn't fit and then stick with it or return it. Save time and buy better.

I use this on a monitor I installed on a table in our attic that the kids use for homework. I have a couple of Chromebooks that use them and it's perfect for hooking them up to a monitor to make things easier when they're at home. As mentioned, you'll need to tell the device not to send audio over HDMI if you want it to pass through the device, but that's the only setting that needs to be set. This is exactly what anyone who has a Chromebook and needs to connect it to a VGA monitor needs.

I bought this adapter to connect an old VGA monitor to a new nVidia graphics card in a three monitor system. The graphics card has three different outputs; DP, HDMI and DVI. When you need to connect an HDMI source to a VGA input, you can't do it with a simple cable with mating connectors on both ends. adapter like this. Why?
