Plug and play for me

I use my computer as an audio oscilloscope. I once wrecked a computer when a large voltage hit the USB sound card and entered through the USB port. These USB isolators isolate your computer from such threats. Bought one and then two more. They work . Like I said, plug and play for me.

Pros
  • Everything great!
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was something

Use with older MBOX external USB audio interface. I had issues with audible noise in the digital audio, commensurate with processor load. This got rid of the noise, but I had to use an external power supply. It's great that they offer this option, but it would be great if they could isolate the 5V path so that wouldn't be necessary.

Pros
  • Long range
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly

Generates its own electrical noise!

This isolator is designed to isolate the two sides of the USB connection and eliminate electrical noise. But this completely unshielded device (which, of course, will never pass FCC Part 15 certification) generates significant electrical noise of its own! Bring in a portable AM radio and the hiss completely drowns out the reception. The manufacturer must enclose this device in a suitable RF shielded enclosure and add chokes to the USB and power connections.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • Long delivery time

Excellent isolation for USB-MIDI

I use this device between my computer and the Eurorack system via USB-MIDI -> CV/Gate modules. This block offered the highest noise reduction of any other isolator I've tried (Hifi:me and others). The resulting noise at the audio outputs of the modular system has been reduced from around -55 dBFS to -105 dBFS. In fact, it's gone from "fairly noticeable" to nonexistent. The Hifi:me Isolator was the only other adapter that offered the same level of noise reduction in this context.

Pros
  • good thing
Cons
  • protection

THIS IS!: Home audio

My ears got tired of the USB howling through the audio outputs while working on a Roland MC-101 connected to a PC. I was about to buy some expensive products to stop that annoying noise when this one caught my eye for only $16?! Skeptical as always, I figured I wouldn't lose much at this price point if it didn't work and jumped at it. You know what? I HAVE WON! Yes Yes Yes! The output is now completely FREE from the buzz of the old USB modem! Now, after decades of struggling, my ears have gone…

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Damping

I have a small USB powered soundbar, but when the soundbar is turned on at above average volume, I get a high pitched screeching sound that varies with the volume. The soundbar is tight against other electrical cords so I figured it might be RFI. I bought ferrite cores but they made no difference. I decided to include a ground isolator in the USB circuit, but was confused by the price difference: they were either $15 or over $30. Since this isn't a HiFi situation, I opted for a cheaper Nobsound

Pros
  • Sleek design
Cons
  • Too long to wait

Does what it says on the tin but too slow for hi-res audio

The module does exactly what it says on the tin and fixes a nasty ground loop problem that came from my PC and went through my audio circuitry. The issue I had and the reason I deducted a star and ended up returning the product was that it doesn't really support USB 2.0. It supports it in the sense that you can plug in anything that is USB 2.0 and it will connect, but that's just USB's inherent backwards compatibility. The device only supports USB 1.1 connected speeds. I wanted to use this…

Pros
  • Lots of positive vibes
Cons
  • No power

Excellent functionality for the price

I would have liked a closed dust cover, but at least it is closed (unlike other inexpensive options that are only raw printed). While in some situations I prefer not to need a cable, sometimes it's great as it gets rid of crowded USB hubs. I needed this because a synth would add a lot of distortion/noise when using its USB port for MIDI in/out. . It's standalone so I wasn't sure why it wasn't turning off USB power like the best DACs do, but it worked great. Now the same silence as when turning…

Pros
  • High marks for grip and durability from testers
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks
