⏰ Renewed Sony ICFC-1 Alarm Clock Radio LED Black: Enhanced Functionality at a Lower Cost Review

Base brand clock radio for less than $20, what more could you want? I realize it's really easy and you have to tune in stations manually and the speaker sounds more mono than stereo, but who cares? You buy it because you want a basic clock radio instead of waking up to that horrible and annoying iPhone ringtone.

I bought this alarm clock specifically for the retractable alarm button. This makes it easier for me to set and reset the alarm without disturbing my still sleeping spouse as it is the only button in this shape/style. Being able to use this alarm function accurately and in the dark is the most important feature for me. I also generally like the look and feel of the overall ease of use. Happy I made this purchase.

Despite the advert "stand up and shine with Sony's dual alarm clock radio", this is NOT a dual alarm clock. Only one time can be programmed. It also says "Battery included: Yes", but that's not true. Might apply to new ones. Also, the horn doesn't buzz like it should, it just clicks and isn't loud enough to wake me up. However, the sound from the radio is pretty decent and the display is simple and easy to read. So I can leave it anyway, too much hassle to send it back.

The watch was like new, although the packaging has some wear. Came with a new battery. The watch itself is minimal but functional. It has an old analog tuner and volume controls, but it works. The tuner does not deviate from the station (unless you accidentally move the tuning knob). This radio is complete junk. I'm in New York and we have dozens of AM and FM stations, but this thing barely picked up two AM stations along with a lot of buzz. In fact, I heard Morse code somewhere in the middle of the AM band when I turned it on. FM was almost as bad. Cannot be configured. It was supposed to be 'refurbished' but it seemed like someone else bought it and then sent it back and they just resold it to me with no attempt at 'refurbishment'. I love the design of this alarm clock. It has an easy to use interface (once you get the hang of it) and looks more sleek/modern than anything else at this price point. However, FM reception is very disappointing indeed. Clear reception from one of the largest FM stations (in one of the largest FM markets in the US) is next to impossible. I try to stay awake with my phone on my bedside table to resist the urge to flip through it before bed. Unfortunately, this is my most convenient way of setting an alarm in the morning and checking the time. Simple solution: good old alarm clock. The clock radio meets all expectations.
