Easy to install and insert drives into

I bought 2 types of 3 inch hot swap SATA enclosures and I prefer this one. The other was more complex and had a fan, but I preferred the simplicity of this unit. I don't have to worry about mechanical failures as much as the other one and I've found that no additional cooling is required. It was easy to install and very easy to put in the discs. The only problem I had to find was a 2.5" to 3.5" converter so I could connect my 2.5" drives to it. Of the 3 purchased, 1 worked just fine. The…

Doesn't work at all and causes problems with other drives

I'm pretty sure this thing is causing problems with my motherboard's SATA controller. When this thing is installed and I insert a drive, all other drives (except the boot drive) momentarily disconnect and reappear. Very strange. I thought it might be a specific port or SATA cable, but I checked several and it wasn't. Then eventually many drives just don't work with it, and yet these drives work fine when connected directly to SATA ports.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Poor instructions

Add a 40mm Noctua fan to the rear

I like these. I have 3 on my unraid server. The slices were too hot for my taste. There are holes on the back for installing a 40mm fan. I added a 40 x 20mm glass Noctua and the temperature dropped almost 10 degrees. I ran it from the motherboard but they have a 12v connection if you have a 2 pin fan with the correct connection. Hope that helps.

Pros
  • Don't waste too much time
Cons
  • Wait too long

The price is too high, good for computers and accessories

Good quality product. The aluminum frame is solid, but with no rubber or noise-absorbing fabric, this tablet is actually quite noisy. Other than that, it's well made and doesn't have horrible logos or branding. good product but almost twice the price of similar products so hard to justify.

Quality electronics

Almost deducted a star because I bought the aluminum as advertised. It's not aluminum, it's aluminum and plastic, just like the others, only more durable. Some of the plastic parts feel flimsy as others have suggested, so you don't have to be Jewish. However, I doubt they could make all those metal parts and keep the price under $80, so I won't. Very good product. Has worked without any problems. It's not advertised, but they have a blue LED that lights up when the computer is on and turns…

Better than expected

Works great. Be sure to use one of the power extension cords that came with the unit. These cables have a male connector that plugs into the drive bay so you can see the backplane LEDs. This slotless bay has a very strong eject system, some others absurdly often break the bay door open when you "try" to eject a drive from the computer. It wasn't my first choice for a backplane before I bought it, but now that I have it I'm impressed with its quality. StarTech makes great products and provides…

It only depends on the computer

This product works as it should. The problem is that not all motherboards like the interface. Two of my computers need to be hot swappable. The MSI motherboard HATES this tray. It just stalled and interacted with the installed hard drive for about a minute, and then there was a sound like the head inside the hard drive hit the side panel. Tried different cables, different SATA ports, even flashed the bios to the latest version. NOTHING will work. However, I installed the same tray in a computer
