Ideal for Gasoline Wet Gaskets

I purchased this Buna-N sealant after doing some research to find the best material for Gasoline Grade Gasketing Materials. I had a 2005 Harley Fatboy gas tank that was leaking gas from the fuel gauge (left) - the existing gasket was blown through. I used the steel cover as a template and cut out the gasket. It worked great. There was no more chronic leakage. If you have gas laying apps, this is what you need.

Pros
  • Quality Construction
Cons
  • Requires Pickup

Doesn't work at all for gas cans

As another reviewer noted, this material, presumably BUNA-N or nitrile, is not suitable for gas can caps. It swells, warps, and fails within hours, rendering any lid gaskets made from it useless. It may be suitable for other purposes, but not for gas cartridges. I'm very surprised that more reviewers haven't mentioned this important flaw, as that's the purpose many people buy this stuff for. You'll have to look elsewhere if you intend to use it for this purpose.

Pros
  • Hands Free
Cons
  • Very expensive

Good quality, reasonable price

I first bought a 1/16 sheet after reading reviews and comments. I had to make replacement seals for plastic gas bottles. In my case, the 1/16" thickness was too thin for a good seal. I bought this material 1/8" thick and tried again. It was the perfect thickness for my particular jugs and stopped leaking in the back of my pickup truck when I went camping or hunting. I shook the jugs and intentionally kicked them pretty hard while they were filled with gas. It doesn't drip a bit. Time will tell…

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly
