Excellent value for money and quality. Wide range of hole sizes

Overall very happy with this dowel plate. It easily cuts through the sides of a variety of holes allows you to start with a larger stock and get to the right size dowel with less effort.I installed it on a piece of hardwood and kept it hanging by my bench, ready to hammer through the dog hole.I was thinking of a Leigh- Nielsen dowel plate, but I'm glad I got this one instead as it's thicker, has a lot more hole sizes, and is only $10 more.

Pros
  • 17 holes in 1/32" pitch from 1/8" to 5/8"
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks

Solid product: Fasteners

Only 4 stars because I haven't fully used it yet, just did some test dowels to check functionality and it worked as advertised. Not only is it competitively priced (depending on what you sneeze at) but it has more features. I need to make a fixture/mount for this and look forward to using it. I used to buy dowels and found that they were inconsistent in size (yes, I know wood shrinks and expands). However, you are also limited by the material of the store-bought dowels. This allows me to make…

Pros
  • Precision machined and ground 3/8" thick A2 tool steel
Cons
  • So far so good

Just buy it. You won't find a better dowel.

Turn that scrap wood into useful pens and plugs. This dowel plate is a great tool. It works great and is made with precision and attention to detail. I made some 3/8 red oak dowel pins and checked how they would fit in the 3/8 hole drilled with a forstner bit. The fit is perfect, sloppy. With practice and desire, the diameter of the dowel can be adjusted so that the end looks more like a dowel that needs to be cut from your project and then sanded flush. The fit is perfect for the hardwood…

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Doubtful purchase for the elderly

However quality. on pins

Expensive but happy to be wider; However, it is made with genuine quality as it is all about craftsmanship. Something rare these days when all the junk comes from everywhere. Update: Two days after using it, we had to give it two stars. The description says "The holes are countersunk, which means the bottom diameter of the hole is larger to reduce friction against the dowel as it goes through each hole." That all sounds good, though the reality is that when driving/drilling, the dowel will…

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Big and bulky

Good dowel board with conditions

This is a good dowel board but it requires a few different things to work properly: 1. Material preparation is key. If you want larger plate sizes, you'll want your blank to be a much narrower size. On the other hand, if you want a medium or smaller dowel in a panel, you can just cut out a square blank to fit large holes and shrink it about 6 times, which works great.2. Stable base/platform. I built the platform from a 6" solid piece of pine scrap I had laying around and machined a slot to…

Pros
  • Best in its niche
Cons
  • I'll add later
