I have purchased an upgraded model called Webstar, not Cisco

I have already leased a Cisco 2100 from TWC. That is no longer on their recommendation list either. I called and said I have a replacement 2100 and gave me a new MAC address. This address is not within range of Cisco branded devices. They then wanted the model and part number to be acceptable. The Cisco and Webstar numbers are the same otherwise I would return them. Real Cisco model is from 2010, updated from Webstar - 2006, same hardware version, 2.1. Eventually they agreed the modem was fine…

Compact and efficient

I get just over 3Mbps with this modem, which is all I pay for and need. It does not support the higher speeds of DOCSIS 3.0 (it is a DOCSIS 2.0 modem). I like its compact design as it sits on my desk next to my computer. I like that the transmit/receive data lights flash to indicate data is being transmitted since most newer models are on all the time. I guess I prefer just blinking lights. This modem is smaller than my Netgear router that I use for WiFi and sits on top of it. It gives off very

Works great with TWC Internet (Maine)

When I first moved into my current home in 2005, Time Warner supplied one of these modems. I used their modem until December 2012 when I decided I wasn't going to pay X dollars a month for a dead horse (replace X with what Time Warner charges you for the privilege of renting one of their obsolete/government modems ). art-modems) Since I only have TWC "Standard" Internet, the thing works fine. It's DOCSIS 2.0, which means it can't do anything beyond the standard 15Mbps connection they offer. If…

Works with Time Warner in San Antonio, Texas

I've found that you can use your own modem. I decided to stay with the same brand I rented. The unit I rented was marked Cisco at the point of sale, but when I checked the hardware on my Time Warner account, I found that Scientific-Atlanta said WebSTAR DPC2100. I went ahead and took a chance. The one I got didn't have a Cisco out there. It said Scientific-Atlanta WebSTAR DPC2100, but the model on the page was the same as my rented DPC2100R2 modem. I plugged it into a cable and my PC (by…

Replaced a Time Warner modem and saved $6 a month on my cable TV bill.

Works great. Saves me $72 a year on my cable TV bills. Replaced my Time Warner cable modem (which I found out they were charging me $6 a month to rent) with this one. I just plugged it in without installing any software (a software install is only required if you're connecting your computer via USB rather than Ethernet), turned on the device, and then called Time Warner to have them activate it. When you call, make sure you have the MAC address of both the new and old modems, and the brand and…

Works for Time Warner Cable (September 2013)

I bought this modem without hesitation because TWC has a limited list of "approved" cable modems, most of which are quite expensive ($70 and up). When it arrived I had problems with the original modem that TWC installed (I couldn't run DirecTV and cable internet on the same line in my house because the modem was interfering with the line and cutting out satellite communication). I connected this modem and within a minute all my devices including the satellite went green. All I had to do was…

Working fine after 30 minutes with TW Tech Support

I replaced the exact same Time Warner Scientific Atlanta modem yesterday (by model and version number but my replacement is a few years older according to production date 1/2007) Label and original TW says not Webstar). It took me over 30 minutes on the phone with TW to get it working. I told the first TW tech it was a Scientific Atlanta modem (didn't want to mention WebStar in case it caused problems). No comments from him. He didn't ask for a model number or anything like that. While trying…

In service for TWC at NC 28090 (Falston) since 12/23/2014.

Just installed TWC in NC 28090 (Falston) in the last few hours. As a result of the first call, someone said it wasn't on the approved modems list, I tried to say I knew it worked for other people and asked if I could talk to someone else. Then he pretended to try and said it wouldn't work because the serial number wouldn't work. I did as Mike said and called again. This time someone asked me the Mac number and if it was DOCSIS 2.0 or 3.0. I told them I believe it was DOCSIS 2.0 and gave them a…
