Finicky Transceivers

The card seems picky about the transceivers you connect. My 10GbE copper transceiver "matches" but it shows a line speed of 10Gb/s, even though it's currently connected to a 1Gb/s switch and refuses to change the line speed via ethtool . The adapter also thinks the transceiver is connected via fiber and there doesn't seem to be any way to dissuade it from that notion (hence probably refusing to slow down the connection). In this misconfigured state, the adapter connects but has a very low…

Excellent network adapter, well maintained.

Intel makes excellent network cards with good support for almost all major operating systems. The X710 is no exception; I would choose this NIC over Broadcom anytime, even if it's a bit more expensive. Power consumption is also good and low, especially when using a DAC instead of fiber.

so I'm 100% satisfied.

Purchased when I found my Dell R210 II was not working with Chelsio T520-CR - the system would not boot with this card. So I bought this and it was recognized and could be configured in pfsense/opnsense without any extra steps. I couldn't fully test the performance, but I was able to reach 2Gbps both ways with no problem, so I'm 100% satisfied.
