I use it for deer hunting not fishing so keep that in mind. It's a gear holder/retractor and I think it works. It's not a "quiet whisper" or even a particularly quiet one. I have a cheap $3 key winder and this one is about as loud in dB but with a lower tone (because it's bigger). I wouldn't want to pull it out or pull it in when a deer is around.
