My son (7) got this from his grandparents for his birthday. He has wanted a telescope since his 4th birthday. He had a small kid's scope that did little to help him find the moon and was difficult to view. My mom wanted something he could use but also be able to find what he was looking at and see clearly. It hit the nail on the head. The viewfinder was easy to calibrate and my son was able to find and align the moon and some launches himself. He needs adult supervision and a little help at times, but we love that the telescope encourages his love of space instead of discouraging him. We also bought a kit from Celestron which included a moon filter and 15mm lens which I thought was a smart addition. .Even adults were amazed at the detail we could see. It is also excellent as a day scope. The only downside is that the mount can be a little wobbly and is very easy to hit even when locked, making it difficult to hold on to the stars as they disappear from view. (But for our beginner purposes it was great).
