Invisible - BEAM It

Aim your light further and reap the benefits of better photos. One of the disadvantages of bird photography is that small birds usually like to hide in branches to feel safe in low light. Using long lenses usually requires a fast shutter speed to improve sharpness, but in limited light, stick with options like bumping up the ISO and shooting with slight underexposure in the hope that your camera's dynamic range will recover detail. in POST processing OR! You can buy one of these and put a flash in it. Visit the TrueToad website for bird reviews and pictures. How well it works: Very well. I can aim my SB-910 and SB-5000 Speedlights well beyond their normal range and bring out detail that would otherwise be lost in the dim light of the trees. But don't expect the light to stretch 200 feet, it works within reason. Pros: Lightweight and easy to carry - you'll hardly notice it's attached to the flash other than the look and feel! Cons: Plastic and velcro I noticed that in the hot summer heat the adhesive on the velcro got a little soft but still held. It should also be noted that a warning label accompanies the product. The lens is a Fresnel lens. If you're wearing this on your daylight flash like me, beware! When the lens is aimed at the sun, the light is highly focused and concentrated and can instantly burn you, your hair or your gear. SIDE STORY: My lens has a protective coating. One day I was out of the house in the sunshine when I picked up my camera system, put the mount on my shoulder when I noticed the lens coating was "smoky", the light from the headlight was focused, no real damage was done, but I could see traces of burns on the lens coating - funny. SUITABLE FOR FLASH: Simply attach to both sides of the flash, attach with Velcro, and then attach the lens to the front, takes about a minute from start to finish.
