So far, so good. I have a few cameras and .

So far so good. I had a few cameras and gradually upgraded them as my skills improved. This is definitely not your grandfather's camera and not worth buying if this is your first DSLR. Even after mastering the D610, the D800 still requires some training, albeit a pleasant one. Extremely high resolution requires skill and patience, as well as mastering all the technical aspects of the camera, otherwise your pictures will look much worse than even from an iPhone. The workmanship is very solid and looks "professional". Many of the functions that would require you to dig through menus are right on the D800's handy buttons, for example. ISO and bracketing. It's not a speed monster, and it's average at best for sports and action, and you'll definitely need a battery and CF card (my next purchases) for more performance. I'm a photographer first and as such I love the dreamy but amazingly realistic quality of the D800's photos and it will be my camera of choice for at least the next two years.
