Quality 2.5 " Drive Enclosure

I have an Acomdata Tango Pro 2.5" SATA drive enclosure with USB 2.0, Firewire 400 and 800 I/O ports on the Back. It also has a small 5V DC power jack just in case the DC power supply to your I/O port is negligible or weak. I needed different I/O ports as I have several different PCs and Macs that I want to use this case on. I tested Acomdata and my drive on all of them and none of them required 5V DC for the case. The case doesn't come with a 5V DC wall adapter, but you'll probably never need…

Fast Hard Drive Accessory

I've had the FW400 version for a long time and it's great. I just received this FW800 model and the speed is great. The form factor is the same as the others, with a full board inside holding the drive, which is very solid compared to some cases where only the dongle board is connected to the SATA connector. Instead of two FW400 ports, this case has one FW400 and one FW800 port, as well as a USB port. Aluminum body with plastic end caps. It gets pretty hot with a 500g drive, which means it's…

Very poor resilience

I would like to recommend this product, but unfortunately I can't. The problem is that it just doesn't handle the full powerband that the specs call for. The first version of this device I received refused to run my drive (an SSD that was drawing around 6W of power) through FW. I sent it back and was told the FW ports were bad. The replacement has FW ports that work --- but do not YET support the full 7W that the FW provides. The situation on the USB side isn't much better - a low-power drive…

Excellent triple port HDD enclosure

and I had to set up Time Machine with my new 1TB hard drive in my Macbook. There aren't many 2.5-inch HD cases that can accept the new HD form factor for 1TB laptops. This one is great because not only does it easily fit a 1TB drive, but it also has a triple interface, which isn't very common these days. One thing that really impressed me is when I connect the case to my Macbook via firewire. 800 the drive is powered like USB. You don't need a separate power supply, which is very convenient…

Pros
  • Highest score for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Almost never full

Works fine for me on PSU, not bus-powered

Like a few others here, I see that I need a PSU or my drive won't mount. In this case I have a 320GB 7200rpm Hitachi drive installed and I'm using it with a mid 2007 MacBook Pro (Santa Rosa 2.2GHz, 10.6.2). I bought this case specifically to use the FW800 and bus power. I already had an eSATA case for Hitachi, but my Express eSATA card was unreliable and this case obviously required a power supply. I'm a musician who needs a portable and reliable setup, and I don't like having to deal with…

Pros
  • Rugged finish
