Circular aperture (7 blades) for soft backgrounds. Maximum magnification of 0.25x at the telephoto end. Minimum focusing distance: 9.8 in./0.25m (full zoom range).

Just so-so lens

The build quality of the lens is very good. Picture quality is so-so I think so. A prime lens has better image quality, so the zoom matches the usual drop in image quality when zooming in. That's handy, especially since no other M lenses were available at the time of purchase.

Advantage of the Year

If you own an EOS M, you probably bought this lens with it. If not, if you have 22mm instead, then get this lens now. Average Canon optics. This is not an L lens, but it has good sharpness and contrast. It seems well built, the lens is all metal (the touch parts at least) and the zoom is smooth. At current prices, this is an absolute bargain.

Read Pro Reviews. This lens is a bit snubbed, but it's better than me and probably better than many photographers. My biggest problem is holding the camera steady. For the EOS-M series, the question is: choose a faster EF-M 22mm prime lens with sharp sharpness if you can focus it, or use this more versatile EF-M 18-55mm lens, which may be a little faster when focusing and a little less sharp. You probably want both. I bought this used like new in an electronics cart and it's perfect. The priceโ€ฆ
