Great for dirty tanks!

I used almost the entire bag on my dirty 15 gallon Fluval Flex tank. It's good enough not to look bulky, provide a lightweight fit and retain mud, but rough enough to prevent anaerobic bacteria and compaction. However, there were weird sticks and such in this sand which I had to select as I had to wash it out with a fine sieve. All my plants take it very well and I will most likely use it again for dirty or Wolstad aquariums. Keep in mind that it's very difficult to vacuum, it's basically just…

Very happy with gravel

I went from a 40 gallon to a 55 gallon tank and decided to change the substrate. I did enough research on what I wanted and went for it. I added it to my new aquarium today and couldn't be happier. It really is a beautiful mix. It has many colors but has a clear color. I ended up buying what I needed because I wasn't sure how long it would last. My new tank is 30" x 12" and one bag is enough. I would advise against following the cleaning instructions on the bag. What I did was pour the…

Great substrate! for gravel

I switched from regular gravel to CaribSea Peace River gravel and I love it. My chars really appreciate the difference, as do my brown cats. This substrate is smaller than regular gravel but larger than sand. Looks great in my freshwater aquarium. The color is similar to light brown beach sand, smooth and very beautiful. I'm not afraid my fish will eat the smallest stones. I bought 75g and originally 80lbs (4 bags) but I really only needed 3 bags (60lbs). It was also easy to clean. I cut off…

Excellent growing medium for cat TV

I've wanted an aquarium with plants for a long time. More than just a few plants in containers. That was great. As the instructions and others will tell you, it takes time to settle and filter out when you first add it to the aquarium. I haven't planted or added any fish in about a month. The water was cloudy the whole time, no matter how many times I cleaned the filter or did small water changes. But after it settles, the aquarium becomes a wonderland when you start planting it and adding its…

Perfect find on gravel

This is exactly what I was looking for. My 29 gallon has had Tex Blast gravel in it for a long time. I wanted to add more gravel to my aquarium but unfortunately Tex Blast is no longer available. When I saw the Carib Sea Peace River I thought it might work. Well, not only did it work, but it came together so well you wouldn't even guess I added the new to the old. The plants in my tank love the size of this gravel. They have a strong root system and grow well. In addition, leftover food cannot…

Excellent substrate for aquariums and supplement for cactus substrates

First of all, I have to say that I use soil filters in most of my aquariums and prefer aquariums with plants. I'm not going to argue about the pros and cons of gravel packs. Suffice it to say that I have been using them in planted aquariums for sixty years and they work very well for me. In plant tanks, I prefer to use the finest gravel that doesn't fit through the slots in my filter. This gravel meets these requirements perfectly. I used to like gravel, known as red flint. This type of gravel…
