Description of Firefly Kosher Eucalyptus Scented Clean Fuel Lamp Oil - Smokeless Bulk 5 Gallons for Longer Burning Efficiency

NOT FOR USE IN FIRE PITS OR VESSELS REQUIRING AN ETHANOL-BASED FUEL. Alternative, longer burning fuel than paraffin lamp oil or kerosene - inhouse testing showed a significantly longer burn time. See the REVIEWS. Important: to achieve a smokeless burn, please review the User-Guide PDF which is found under Technical Specifications on this page below. We will send you a tips email detailing best-use practices. Please use as directed and you will have a great experience. KOSHER, CLEAN BURNING, ODORLESS, SMOKELESS & CLEAR – The base fuel is odorless. We add eucalyptus oil which adds a slight hint of scent when smelling in the bottle – not so much when burning. It’s a nice alternative to citronella oil. Be sure to use a NEW wick and keep the height as low as possible, about 1/16” above the wick holder. Maximum flame will be achieved in about 5 minutes. Also NEVER MIX our fuel with another fuel. BULK LAMP OIL 5-GALLON CONTAINER WITH SPIGOT: Included with every 5-Gallon container of Firefly Fuel is a spigot for easy refilling. Have it on hand before the next emergency or hurricane hits. This fuel has no shelf life when properly stored. Recommended for indoor and outdoor use. USE RECOMMENDATIONS: For use in liquid oil candles, oil lamps & hurricane lanterns that use a small wick. Safe for Indoor & outdoor use. Please read the reviews where folks give 1 star. They are not using the fuel as directed. An informed consumer is our best customer. Approved for use with Firefly Colored Lamp Oil Dye. WHERE NOT TO USE - Not for use in table-top fireplaces, effusion lamps or catalytic lamps that require gel fuel or alcohol-based fuels. Firefly CLEAN Lamp Oil is NOT recommended for tiki torches or vessels using a wick larger than 3.6mm which is a little over 1/8” as it will smoke. (See Discussion Below).

NO SMOKE FREE - Oil Lamps

I used them in some firefly tea lights for a program at our church today and was very upset with the smoke coming from them. Everyone thought the room was on fire. We figured we just needed to burn out a bit, but after 30 minutes of continuous smoking I had to blow them out. When we turned on the light, you could still see the haze. So very disappointed.

Pros
  • Lots of positive vibes
Cons
  • Some bugs

No better than much cheaper alternatives.

If this product lived up to its claim of "almost odorless", it would be worth a very high price in some situations. In its current form, it produces no less odor than something like Klean Heat, which can be purchased for about a third of the price. Yes I have cut out a new wick and cleaned the reservoir before use and the result is the same. It's just not worth the incredibly high price. I have Dietz and Kirkman flashlights that I use regularly and my opinion of this product hasn't changed…

Absolutely perfect when used correctly.

When you smell the container, it smells of petroleum. When it's burning I can't smell it and it doesn't leave black soot or stains on the fireplace glass. I have five oil lamps that I use in a small space and have no carbon monoxide issues. I am very happy with this oil for my lamps because it is eco-friendly and burns without the toxic odors that kerosene oil gives off. I will not use any other oil for my lamps, especially since I use it in a small pendant and it not only helps with lighting…

I finally found a lamp oil that REALLY CLEARLY BURNS!

I'm so glad I kept looking for lamp oil! Luckily I found Firefly CLEAN fuel lamp oil. This is exactly what my small (room) lamp needs. It's really clean. BUT ONLY IF YOU KEEP THE WICK AT A VERY MINIMAL LEVEL. If the exposed portion of the wick remains ultra short (in my lamp it goes ANOTHER 16 inches!) there is absolutely no smoke. The oil doesn't smell like anything either. I am very happy with this purchase and would buy again at any time. Remember: you MUST KEEP THE WICK LOW, LOW, LOW. Lower

Pros
  • This is great
Cons
  • About

Purchased for Dietz Little Wizard kerosene lamps. I based my purchase on the photo of the packaging and did not read the instructions for use regarding the maximum wick size. Several online flashlight experts recommend different flash points between 130 and 150 depending on indoor or outdoor use and product (see laternennet.com FAQ for an example). This product has a flash point of 200 which is higher than should be used in a 5/8 or 7/8 wick lantern if I understand what others are saying. I…

Best home decor oil I've ever used

In my remote cabin in the warmer months I alternate between liquid paraffin for a light oil and lamp oil in the winter months. how not to freeze Liquid paraffin gels or freezes, and lamp oil creates too much odor and almost suffocates. So far I haven't found a single oil that doesn't gelatinize or contain an odor. Firefly oil gives off a very faint odor, but it's actually almost imperceptible. Although it wasn't cold enough to actually test this year, Firefly oil remained completely liquid at…

Pros
  • Great selection
Cons
  • Not as thick as other products

Good price but (different) cost

I chose this product because it seemed like a better deal than what I used and bought which is Lamplight Ultra-Pure lamp oil. This 1 gallon Firefly Clean alternative oil is only $8 less than Lamplight's 1 gallon Ultra-Pure Paraffin Oil. But given the Firefly brand's claimed longer burn time, it's a more economical choice. Firefly also has straight wax if you prefer, but the savings between the two will be less if you compare wax oils from both companies. I can only give 3 stars "it's ok" and…

Find me those old lanterns!

My mother brought me two Dietz flashlights that her father used once. He used it to build a pumping station in winter to keep the pipes from freezing. He also burned kerosene in them, and over the years they got very dirty. After his death, my mother used them as mantel decorations and they have not been used in 40 years. They were in very good condition for their age and I spent some time taking them apart and cleaning them. I didn't want to put them in "brand new" condition as I figured paint

Pros
  • Top marks for grip and durability from testers
Cons
  • Only available in black

Firefly CLEAN Fuel Lamp Oil

Sitting here burning Firefly CLEAN Fuel Lamp Oil in my new Vermont Lanterns Brass "Dorset" Table Lamp (8", Antique Brass) I can see that it's a match made in heaven! :) I can't see and/or smell ANY of this alleged soot or smoke that I've read about from a very small number of people. I believe their problems are due to misuse of this beautiful product ( operator error) I will continue to order this lamp oil as long as the price does not go up (note this was a Prime item when I ordered it so…
