Probably because of the price despite the issues

Bought before I went to SCCA Runoffs thinking it was a simple and straight forward setup that would come in handy straight away. This is not entirely correct. First, the long USB-USB-C cable was defective - the device would not boot. After I swapped it out, it worked. However, this changed from session to session. Some sessions have audio over video, some don't (without changing settings on my part). The same applies to training on the track. It worked in just a few sessions. Not as advertised…

    Great device for track days

Garmin Catalyst does exactly what it promises. It offers real-time recommendations to improve time. I had it in my car during a track day this weekend and it worked flawlessly, immediately finding opportunities to shave lap times. Very easy to set up and use. Almost every track on the planet is programmed with it, which made it very easy. I just switch to the track and start driving. The recommendations started after 2-3 laps to allow the system to calibrate to my driving style. At the end of…

Seems to be a great tool so far

Although I've only been able to drive 2 days on the Autobahn with the catalytic converter, I'm impressed with the product and think it will be useful to improve my driving. I especially like the instant feedback. No need to stream video from my GoPro and analyze it with a lap timer. After each session, all this information is easily accessible and can be viewed on the device itself. I find it important to know that the analysis is based on "your" lap and not on the optimized lap programmed into

Improved track time after first run

First of all, it's very easy to install! from time to time for my wife and me. After the running group, we can look at the opportunities they identify based on our own driving style. about his strengths and weaknesses on the track. Optimal Lap is a great feature that picks the best segments based on the laps we've done, stitches them together and provides a realistic and achievable goal for our next session. The video quality is top notch and having all the data we're looking for on a specially

    Excellent but could be better

I have stopped using Aim Solo for 2 since purchasing the catalyst. However, the catalyst has a lot of potential for future upgrades. Two issues/improvements that could be made: 1) When I crashed the catalyst was not recording my last lap. The catalyst doesn't seem to be recording any recent incomplete laps. If you also want to use this for autocrossing etc, you can't currently do that as the recording doesn't start until the lap is finished. I hope Garmin releases an update in the future that…

Gives confidence to an inexperienced driver

As a beginner driving 4 days at the track last year I never knew how much bigger I was or my car in it. I would never stay on track for a whole day because I felt like I was just hammering the car without improving money or HOW I could improve. Now that I've spent a track day with it in the car it has greatly improved my track experience and I want to return as soon as possible as many spots have pointed out how I could improve. I started the day with my personal best lap time of 2:40. After a…

great when it worked but suffers from numerous bugs

First and only weekend with Garmin Catalyst, it worked great for the first two sessions of the track. When I started the car for the 3rd session, I got the error message "Training not available". I checked all the connections - they were solid, so I tried turning the device off - the shutdown message kept spinning for 40 minutes before it finally restarted. I missed any video or lap times throughout the session. During the rest of the weekend I accidentally got a "camera not connected" message,

    Easy to use, good reviews

I've been using the Catalyst for about 5 sessions now and it's taken me so long to get used to it. I ended up with Harry and other camera combinations that sometimes worked or didn't work together and sometimes even synced. Of course, even if he was well behaved, there was something to worry about. The Catalyst, like most of the Garmin products I've used, runs without fuss and does its job well. The camera captures great video and the device has plenty of mounting options and performance…
