Gates 43114 High-Quality Engine Water Pump Review

New water pump received in manufacturer's packaging with gaskets and plugs. This is a spare for a 30 year old who is still in the car.

It is painted in the photos but not actually painted so the finish will rust easily and is far from perfect. The quality of the seals is not very good, immediately flowed.

Advantages: Easy installation and factory installation. Disadvantages: There were small chips or cast slag in the pump. This is easily fixed by running it under the sink for a few minutes. I don't know if that would have caused any problems, but it still surprised me. Otherwise no real complaints. Would buy again. I have used many Gates products in the past and have never had a problem. Would buy again.

Maybe it's just too much, but wouldn't it hurt to paint those water pumps? When you have a car to rely on because of a broken water pump, you don't really have time to stop, paint the part and wait for it to dry before installing it. After a few weeks this pump is covered with rust film. It looks like garbage. Somehow I'll paint over it when I have time, but right now it's pumping water normally, it's not flowing.

Had to scoff at the reviews suggesting this part needs painting as it's been on my truck for 12,000 heavy, heavy loads and hill climbs. and grins at me every time I open the hood, unaffected as soon as it comes out of the box. All I can add is KEPT THE THERMOSTAT and replace it AT THE SAME TIME. oh and that 'mechanic' who said my freeze plugs were bad, I'll miss you baby lol Two hours to change hoses, thermostat, pump and then back on the road kids!
