I ended up just using the plastic handle. I had to disassemble the handle from the flush sleeve because the plastic part that was supposed to fit in the toilet was too big and was sticking out. Instead I used the old one flush with the part that matches the handle. Now it works and my old broken pen has been replaced. So we're fine, and I'll leave the device. This flush grip is much better than the original grip that came with my tote and about 80% cheaper than the original part.
