Iconic high contrast black and white film

TMAX 100 is one of my favorite black and white films. I started using it when I was in college. Some people like the Tri-X, but I prefer the higher contrast and latitude that the TMAX has. At ISO 100, the grain is very fine. Really only good for shooting outdoors in sunlight if you don't have a tripod or flash. I shoot 120 roll film with my Rolleiflex 3.5f. Develop it yourself in Kodak Chemistry (developer D-76) and then scan the negatives. Check out some of the images I uploaded for reference.

Pros
  • Very fast delivery
Cons
  • Crumpled

Really great movie. The rendered blacks and whites are close to Tmax 400 as you would expect, but with even finer grain. I know it's not as clinical, subjective as Delta 100. Wide latitude and handles overexposure well. Something about the contrast of this film always grabs me. It's not as smooth as the Acros 100 and it doesn't have the processed mid-tones of the FP4+, but it just works. Xtol and DD-X work well for detail and sharpness. Some shadow detail is lost, but sharpness is increasedโ€ฆ

  • Nice thing

One of the best and coolest movies.

This film dissolves surprisingly well when combined with a good developer! forget ilford delta 100 or pan f 50 forget fomapan 100 this movie will kick your ass. When developed with Adonal 1+50 the grain is amazing and the skin tones are amazing. For example, when photographing faces with Fomapan, the skin looks too dark, Delta 100 has a green tint, and that's not very good either. But Tmax100 gives you true black and white tones, the iris looks bright and not completely dark like other filmsโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Quick start guide
