Cheating Bait and Switch

I've Been Cheated! When replacing my old original Merkur blade (delivered in a sturdy plastic case) and lo and behold, these blades are marked "Made in Czech Republic" (CZ on the blades)! I have photos of the bait and switch (only the blade in the picture, not in the box, was the blade I used). I thought I would buy "Made in Germany" (see picture above). WalMart has legitimate ones. They can literally cut you if you're not careful - a real safety issue! So upset because of the rave reviews…

Just not the same for cartridges and refills

has a few leftover packages in a plastic box which came in handy when throwing away. At that time they were still made in Germany. Lasts longer and gives a closer shave. Now they have hired them in the Czech Republic to keep the bottom line. Where labor is cheaper I guess? Unfortunately for Mercury, who is trying to turn a profit, has lost a loyal and long-time customer. Now consider blades made in Japan. Also, I can now get a razor blade dispenser for an extra charge.

Too expensive for what you get

My first safety razor was a Merkur and I was very happy with it. Because of this, I decided that buying blades from the same company would be the obvious choice. Without knowing better, I'd say they were decent blades. However, having experimented with other brands (I see Astra Platinum here) these blades have proven to be mediocre at best. They don't last very long and I change them every 2 days unlike others where I get a comfortable shave after 5 days. They're also not very aggressive, so if

No longer German steel quality, now made in the Czech Republic

Have been using Merkur blades for quite some time, love German steel. Extremely sharp, durable blades that stand up to repeated shaves. Update: My last order arrived and I noticed on the packaging that it now says "Made in the Czech Republic". The blades are brittle, duller than what I usually throw away, and no longer come in packaging appropriate for used blades for recycling, only in a cardboard box with blades wrapped in paper. I hope my next order of Wilkinson Sword DE blades meets the…

Not the same! for razors and blades

I bought these from my "buy again" orders. It's not the blades. 1- The old blades were made in Germany, these are made in the Czech Republic (great country, lousy blades) 2- My previous ones came in a hard case to keep used blades safe. removed, this one in a cheap cardboard sleeve that fell apart and scattered the blades everywhere. 3- The old ones were platinum plated, these are just steel. They start off darker, cut into your face, and then get worse. The old ones could be used for about a…

No cheating! - Men's

These blades are not made in Germany. They are made in the Czech Republic. They don't come in neat Merkur packaging with a hard plastic case for safe storage and disposal of the razor. Unlike German blades, "Merkur" is only written on the paper packaging, there is no stamp on the blades themselves. UPDATE: I contacted Dovo, the Czech owners of Merkur. They checked the photos I sent them and confirmed that the blades and packaging appear to be genuine. To be more sustainable, they now only use…
